ALFALito (September 30 - October 1, 2022) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
For this ALFALito, we invite you to participate in Project 16 - “Linguistic questions in relation to the
Latin American diaspora,” with this year’s theme being “Mobility of people and their linguistic practices:
Sociolinguistic, grammatical, and language contact approaches” (organized by Salvatore Callesano,
Víctor Fernández-Mallat, y Adriana Patiño). In addition to our academic meeting, we maintain that
bridging our research with the communities that we study is of critical importance. As such, within the
realm of ALFALito 2022, one day will be dedicated to a professional development workshop for local
(Champaign & Urbana) K-12 teachers about intercultural education and how to incorporate
sociolinguistic knowledge into the classroom. Presenters at ALFALito will be welcome to attend and
participate in the workshop.

interdisciplinary perspective, including but not limited to, sociolinguistics, ethnography of
communication, discourse analysis, applied linguistics, formal grammar, and languages in contact.
